A story refers to a single news story that appeared on the air.

A story has:

Slug: A few words identifying the story
Format: The type of story, whether VO (voice over), SOT (sound on tape), PKG (package), LTT (live to tape)
Runtime: How long the story is
Notes: Free form text area to add information
Date: The date the story ran
Reporter: The reporter on the story
Photographer: The photographer on the story
