• Task 2: Develop preferred approach to cross-repository search

Deliverables

• List of user stories and requirements for cross-repository search with a focus on how different stakeholders, such as people from funding agencies and educational institutions, currently search for data across multiple repositories, and document this understanding so that it can inform solutions for improving browse and search across GREI repositories.
• Document recommendations for metadata needed to support external cross-repository search.
• Publish GREI recommendation regarding supporting cross-repository search.

Status: August 2024

• The task group met on August 15, 2024 to review the task group's standard operating procedure, how often it'll meet, and its deliverables. Two members are working on a framework for collaborating on the first deliverable, learning about and listing user stories and requirements for cross-repository search, which they'll share during the task group's next meeting on September 16, 2024.

Status: September 2024

• In a task group meeting on September 16, 2024 and during the third annual NIH GREI meeting (agenda), members of the task group discussed the goals of cross repository search, including who it would benefit, how best to get feedback from them, and how cross repository search depends on the quality of metadata at each member repository.
• The group plans to plans to invite the creators of the NLM Data Catalog to talk about their use cases and what they've learned about building a cross-repository search system.
