Improve quirks with sample quests

May build on other issues like #7 and exist before merging #11. While testing that one I noticed the following issues, see screenie for some details

• The beacon-granted quest scroll didn't seem to enter the sidebar at all. Recently when I tested it did pop in there, it just started with a checkmark
• Saw some nulls in the logging related to a time-based condition on same
• When trying the book quest I did get good details in the sidebar (with some text overlap) and was able to finish the quest, although again some weirdness happened with the timers. Maybe the timer from the first quest expired after I started the second quest, despite the first one having finished? It seemed some weirdness happened while time passed, but then eventually it succeeded and finished out

I double-checked in Metal Renegades, although oddly there the quest you get from the church still just started out already completed
