I've just tried to build mata from source with ~fresh Ubuntu and the following dependencies are missing from README:
cmake [doxygen]

continuing the list: python-is-python3 python3-pip

Instead of recommending the installation of python-is-python3 (or its equivalent), we could simply replace all references to python with python3 in our build configurations. The same goes for pip: pip to pip3.

#319 already mentions this issue with dependencies, so I think this issue could be only about python. I am ok with having python3 and pip3 in the build configurations.
