media type

A Media type (formerly known as MIME type) is a standard way to indicate the nature and format of a file, in the same way as 'image/jpeg' for JPEG images, used on the internet.
It is a two-part identifier for file formats and format contents transmitted on the internet. Their purpose is somewhat similar to file extensions in that they identify the intended data format.
The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) is the official authority for the standardization and publication of these classifications.

The more important criteria are:
- Standard Format: MIME types must adhere to the format type/subtype
- Registered with IANA: Although, ideally, MIME types should be registered with the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA), ensuring they are part of a recognized standard, we consider Experimental or Proposed MIME types as being a valid MIME type as well.
