The alternet Processing library.

This library is a substitute for the default Processing library. It utilizes the Java NIO package to gracefully deal with sockets while fully support asynchronous networking.

One of the main focuses of the library is to make it as easy to use as possible for people that are not used to deal with networks. This is done by providing a very simple API and hiding as much of the socket functionality as possible. For example, unlike the normal Processing library, it is not necessary to call flush() after every write to make certain that the data is being sent.

This is version 0.94. It was released on 2012-02-25.


Tested Platforms
This library has been tested on Linux, running Processing 1.5.1. The JRE used was the one that version of Processing ships.


Examples
There are two examples distributed with the code. One is a simple chat server that displays the number of connected clients.
The second example is the client that communicates with the server.

To run the examples, start the server first, then any clients.

The port that the server will listen to is 34567 by default, and it will listen to connections on all your network interfaces.

The client connects to localhost:34567, which is the machine you are using and the port 34567. You will need to change localhost into either an IP-address or a hostname if you try to connect to a different computer.

You can either download a zip/tarball of the code or you can clone the git repository.
The downloads are hosted at http:/aginor/alternet/downloads.

Each distribution also contains the source and the javadoc inside the alternet.jar file.


Building
Build the code by running ant -Dprocessing.core.path=/path/to/processing/lib/core.jar
There are four ant targets that might be of interest, clean, build, jar, javadoc.
Contributions
Code contributions are only accepted as patches or a separate Git repository that can be pulled from.
