It boggles my mind that mediators and arbitrators are not unable to see 'Trader Chat' discussions at all - post either trader raising a dispute / mediation request.

Surely such information/what was discussed etc. would be helpful evidence in any investigations?

Not sure how technically could be done, but a private key gets provided upon escalation/support request? Only gets provided to agent/mediator/arbitrator when one of traders raise a dispute.

Thoughts welcome. I'm not a mediator/arbitrator etc. but naturally assumed this was possible... and I suspect others do as well.

I agree. I always assumed mediators could see trader chat.

As a trader I would be happy with mediators and arbitrators seeing the chat.

Also when the case goes to mediation I would be happy with the chat being seen by all 3 parties. I am assuming there is a reason this is kept separate. I am sure there are some instances where separate chats would be useful but in all the trades I have had that have gone to mediation I would have been happy having a chat seen by all three parties.

More often then not I always update my counterparty with what I am saying to the mediator anyway.

At least having an option to chat by all three at once might speed things up.

It might be add more complexity to the chat system that could take up resources and lead to future problems with messaging systems.

Likewise... I doubt anyone is going to be discussing something with a trading partner they would NOT want a mediator/arbitrator to see (unless it's nefarious i.e. shows guilt etc.) which is precisely why it should be possible for the mediator/arbitrator to view; efficiency wise, and ability to remove the whole 'who said what and did what etc.' given that is likely part of the wider context

The trader chat is assumed to not be outside the protocol and thus able to be monitored upon request.

Communication is key, and I also like to update trading partner with any issues, or went through well etc. Developing possible rep for being a good trader (so there's a next time etc, keeping liquidity around etc).

In terms of moderating and complexity - hmm, mod being able to see chat would likely mean ease of chatting (jumping in as well). They're meant to arbitrate conflict as an independent 3rd party. I do see quite a few folks trying to reach out to mods to communicate.
