Maybe helpful to have a choice of layouts. Extra row of keys maybe not so great for people who are mostly used to QWERTY keyboards, but it does help in making all keys visible. What are your thoughts on the layout for the Pan Nigerian Keyboard:

For physical keyboards, one may want to define a mapping that increases typing speed, see for example https://arxiv.org/abs/1707.03753
For mobile keyboards, there is significant research work, though most implementations on smartphones use a mapping similar to a physical keyboard.
