We some manual organization that happens in Jira in reaction to other things that create some unnecessary work we should be able to automate.

Question: Should these be done via GHA or can rules be setup in Jira itself?

  1. good first issue and help wanted labels should get moved to the icebox status
  2. awaiting response label should get moved to awaiting response status and moved to Unprioritized when moved back to triage label
  3. others?

@jtcohen6 and @nathaniel-may are there other things we can automate with Jira? Or can Jira do this itself since we already sync the labels?

@emmyoop Yay, thanks for opening this up as an issue!

I think any issue with the triage label should stay in the Triage status. Once it has neither the triage label nor the awaiting_response label, it should move to Unprioritized.

Or can Jira do this itself since we already sync the labels?

This is a great question, to which I do not know the answer. I also think our label syncing is mostly effective, but not 100% reliable in all cases.

This is more than label syncing though. This is syncing statuses with associated labels. The GHA just plugs into the CLI so while I have not confirmed we can do this, I would be surprised if we can't with the GHA. But this feels more like something Jira should really be doing if it can.
