I want to be able to take notes about content and have that available as part of my profile page.

I assume you being as a user? I think this would be really nice to have.

I can imagine one can select the text, and add a comment attached to that highlight. A bit like how Google Docs works with comments.

You could even consider making unique links for blogs with users' highlights/comments, and make those sharable. So that I could add some highlights + comments, and share them with coworkers.
