This is current behaviour only. The behaviour for what actually happens when you set a profile after a per-room profile is undefined. Fixes https:/matrix-org/matrix-doc/issues/545

Fair enough. I'll close this (again) and shove it through the full proposal process to work out that detail. (I also didn't have high hopes of this making it in, even with the parts removed) |

This is another attempt at #1302, however with the controversial parts removed.
