Is there a reason we don’t do this?
With the History API, we could fairly easily update the
/around
and/area/<slug>
URL parameters when you pan and zoom around the map, without creating new browser History states. This would let people copy the currently visible URL to share it, rather than them having to spot the expertly hidden "Permalink" button in the little black toolbar in the bottom right corner of the map.
This feature would be particularly useful on collideoscope.org.uk where one of the main use-cases of the area maps is campaigners sharing / linking to maps of incidents in a particular area.
