CodeNarc Server error on formatting

When I try to format a .groovy file, I get the following error:
Unable to start CodeNarc Server. Use --noserver if you do not even want to try

I tried relaunching VS Code with the --noserver flag as suggested, but it didn't help

I'm running VS Code in a corporate virtual machine with a restricted set of network connections allowed, which may be the cause

But I still don't get it why something as simple as a code formatter would need any extra connections once it had been successfully installed

Are there any ways I can get around it?
