For local development I'm using mix, so am not making use of Elixir or Erlang releases.
Is it possible to set up this exporter in that environment

Yea, however you would set application environment variables in such an environment. Maybe now that is config/runtime.exs?

Ok, I'll keep trying to look into this one. interested in a PR to the README, if I work out how to set it up with Mix?
