Welcome to the Narrative Maker wiki!

Narrative Maker is a collaborative tool to create high quality data stories of many kinds by acquiring a deep understanding of the relevant datasets and the processes that generate such data.

Why is This Needed?

More data is being collected and distributed now than ever before. At the same time, access to computational and visualisation tools to process data has improved tremendously over the last few years. These factors have lowered the bar to analyse data and describe the patterns one finds. However, the apparent simplicity of tabular data belies the complexity and messiness of the reality that gave rise to the data. Overlooking the considerations in measurement, sampling, data collection, etc. can lead us to myriad types of mistakes and biases in our inferences. To meaningfully interpret patterns in quantitative data about people, societies, economies, environment, etc., one often needs sufficient contextual information that comes from outside the dataset. Narrative Maker aims to provide an environment where a group of people can come together and collectively create this context for the kind of stories they want to tell using data.
