Is your feature request related to a problem or use-case? Please describe.

Related to the v1beta1 API.

Describe the solution that you would like.

Stop serving the v1alpha1 API. As part of the typical/expected API versioning lifecycle, we should drop support for the v1alpha1 API once we are confident the community has the proper notification, and support to migrate to the v1beta1 API.

Describe alternatives you have considered.

Anything else?

Related to #1431 - that and other potential bugs related to v1alpha1 -> v1beta1 conversion can be closed out as obsolete once we do this.
