off-road vs. excellent asphalt #192

Thanks for your feedback, especially about how hard it is to provide feedback ;) I think the vector tile data (and by implication the OSM data) and the styling are correct. Maybe it's a confusion with the text in the legend? Green lines in the map are used for on-road or off-road routes that are great for cycling and generally paved. If the route was off-road and not paved it should be brown instead. Reviewing in the OSM.org iD editor I see a paved cycleway next to the roadway so I think the OSM data is correct. Is there a better way we could word the legend? |
I was suspecting that. The wording is absolutely confusing, since "title" say "bike path", when it's not a path but a road and the name say "off-road paths" and "off-road trail", and there's a green line next to them. So... I am not sure about your categories. If shades of green mean "best for city bikers" then you possibly should write that, but what's orange then? And what's brown? You see the problem is that roads have quite a lot of possible attributes and to me it's not clear which ones have you picked to signify what, or if you pick combos or groups, then how. There are main categories like cycleway, non-segregated cycleway, sidewalk, cycle track, and highways with various size (and traffic); then the tracks and the paths, which are for "off-road bikers". All of these can have a surface, a smoothness; the tracks may have a tracktype, and they may have optional restrictions like bike=no, blocks, fences and all the fun. And to say "what's better for bikers anbd what's worse" you should probably weight all of those, and pick accordingly, if that's what you intend to show. To see what I mean, check this (my absolutely favourite service [hungarian only, sorry]): The OSM data is possibly right since I have surveyed it. ;-) |
Without dwelving into the project too much (come from mapzen map) I see a really weird thing. Mapzen says this color means bike offroad, while ... see for yourself:

Close if it's not a bug, or if it's not the style's fault. You may tell mazen if you know 'em, since they don't seem to have a feedback on the map.
