This is an (as of yet) incomplete transition to the embedding interface that will simultaneously allow accurate checks for code coverage and embedding uutils in other programs (as shell builtins, for example). See #1124 for some more details.
I am not particularly satisfied with the interface at the moment because of boilerplate and such, so if anyone has any ideas I would be very interested to hear them.
