Thank you for continuous work on Whipper. With one of my CDs I am getting this error:

Using configured read offset 667
Checking device /dev/sr0
rip: error: cannot read CD from drive... 100 %
cdrdao says:
Cannot read disk toc.

Using cdrdao directly with the same CD also gives me an error (see below) but eventually completes successfully. All of these messages are just Greek to me. Is there any way I can rip this CD?

Thanks for the compliments.

Unfortunately this one looks like a cdrdao bug.
What is the CD you are trying to rip? Have you tried ripping it using a different drive?
whipper fails ripping because it is aware of cdrdao error so it aborts.

You can try if whipper goes ahead ripping that CD using a patched version of the software (keep in mind this is unsupported behavior):

  1. Follow THESE instructions in the README until the line export PYTHON=$(which python2)
  2. Delete the lines highlighted HERE (responsible for the detection of that error).
  3. Go on following the instructions in the README linked before and opt for running it uninstalled.

Thanks a lot. That is only getting me to the next error. The TOC is read in several places apparently. Anyway, I'll keep poking a bit more and if all fails there is still the option of buying a new CD for relatively small money.

You may now try testing that CD again. Don't know if it will work but d7f8557 introduced a big change regarding cdrdao handling.
