@malarzm just informed me that 2.6.x is unsupported, so I'll close this in favor of a single PR to 2.7.x. |

This is a backport of #2623, per @malarzm's suggestion. PHPUnit 10 was introduced in 0aa0e7b for 2.6.0.
Changes have already been reviewed, so I'll merge pending a clear CI result.
