Hi,

It is unclear to me at this stage whether there is a way using Tekton to get notified (via cloud events, email, webhook...) when a pipeline / task fails. I have seen this frozen issue: #1740.

Does it need to be solved before we can this functionality or is there a simpler way?

for now, you can use finally tasks with kubectl as described by @bobcatfish in #3187 (comment) -- @pritidesai is working on a way for finally tasks to check the status of tasks

you could also use cloud events: https:/tektoncd/pipeline/blob/master/docs/events.md

You can also use cloud events to trigger a notification tasks via an event listener.
That's the way we get notification about failed CD pipelines in Tekton infra (plumbing):
See the event listener, the trigger template and the task
